Denia
The pretty picturesque town of Denia, dates
from Roman times. Lying between the mountains and the long
sandy beaches, its ancient honey coloured fortress dominates
the town.
Denia maintains its old traditions with its
colourful fish and vegetable market. Walk around the old quarter
and discover an authentic Moorish-Spanish atmosphere in its
narrow cobbled streets. The main tree-lined street abounds
with interest and enjoyment, with typical restaurants, shops
and bars - relax quietly or enjoy the bubbling atmosphere
of Continental living.
Blessed with 325 days of glorious sunshine,
Denia offers every facility. With its new Yacht Marina acknowledged
as the finest on the Cost Blanca, and the islands of Ibiza,
Menorca and Majorca lying just off the coast, it has become
the focal point for the Costa Blanca.
Denia is the starting point, at the northern
limit of the Costa Blanca. The city, presided over by a castle
that enjoys a splendid view, unfolds in a clearly urban ambience,
though it still preserves intimate little corners in the fishing
quarters of Baix la Mar and Les Roques, near the fortress.
Both to the North as well as the South, the Denia is littered
with fine beaches.
The Church of Santa Maria, of the 17C,
is its most outstanding sight. The surroundings present several
spots of enormous interest: the view from the Torre (Tower)
del Gerro, a watchtower, erected in the 17C, six kilometres
from Denia heading in the direction of San Antonio, certainly
deserves a visit.
