L Alfas del Pi (Platja del Albir)
L`Alfas del Pi in the heart of the Costa Blanca
is a city with an authentic Mediterranean character. It is
an area where many Europeans are attracted by an ideal climate,
life quality and incomparable landscapes and decide to stay.
L'Alfas del Pi has always been a meeting point for different
races and cultures. A place where people of different origins
have joined together. An important archaeological discovery
near Albir beach witnesses the presence of the Romans in this
zone. L'Alfas del Pi was also a frontier disputed by Christians
and Moors, to which it owes its name.
Tourism has provided the basis for the development
of urban, human and cultural aspects in the city, with residential
zones which have a limit of 4 floors in height, and in which
50% of land is reserved for green zones. In the town itself,
there are 12,547 inhabitants; approximately 6,000 are foreigners,
with 54 different countries of origin, the majority of them
are German, Norwegian, Dutch and English.
The
infrastructures have been developed in Alfas del Pi in order
to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants. It's now
boasts a sports centre, health centre and a cultural centre.
The Cultural centre offers a comprehensive range of services,
such as a concert hall, radio and television studios, courses
for Spaniards and foreigners and activities such as the Film
Festival (held in the first week of July), Jazz festival (October),
symphonic and chamber music concerts, art and sculpture exhibitions
etc.
Albir beach is 2 kilometres away, near Sierra
Helada (Frozen Mountain). It is a pebble beach, with calm,
clear water, and has been awarded the blue flag of the European
Community for the quality of its water, facilities available,
and for having a large part of the events in the area focused
here.
One of the best panoramas of the Mediterranean
can be seen from Albir, with the Peñón de Ifach
in the background. Near the lighthouse there is a nudist beach.
The main promenade is called, "Paseo de las Estrellas"
(Stars' Promenade) as it is decorated with the names of the
winning actors and actresses of the International Film Festival,
which is held every July.
Regional dishes are highly recommended, for
they are made with quality ingredients and traditional recipes.
There are quality wines which hold the Alicante "denominación
de origen". Typical dishes include Pelotas de Dacsa,
Coca a la Calda, Coca farçida, Pebrera Orfegá,
and all types of rice.
