Torreblanca
A traditionally agricultural community, which
in recent years has experienced a notable boom in tourism,
particularly around the area of Torrenostra beach.
This beach has, up until now, a family atmosphere about it,
which visitors can enjoy, and there are hotels and apartments
right beside.
Torreblanca,
along with neighbouring Ribera de Cabanes, enjoys a unique
setting. This is known as El Prado (or El Prat as it is known
locally) is crisscrossed by channels and irrigation ditches
which link up the different lakes and lagoons.
This entire area also serves as a resting place
for several species of migratory birds, as well as the breeding
ground for waterfowl.
Torre La Sal beach, a little further south
from Torrenostra, belongs to the township of Cabanes, which
itself stretches from the mountains as far as the sea. Apart
from a few well-equipped campsites, this beach is unspoilt
and has so far managed to avoid being developed.
The waters of this section of the coastline
are reputed to be the cleanest of them all, and, as a result,
this area was chosen as the ideal location for a Marina Biology
Research Centre, itself under the jurisdiction of the Department
of Scientific Research and the Provincial Government. This
centre is concerned with the breeding and fattening of such
species as king prawns, sole and bass.
