Roses
Roses
is an essentially Mediterranean town with a notable tourist
and seafaring tradition. It is situated in a unique natural
setting, at the north of the Costa Brava, less than 30 kilometres
from the frontier with France, 65 kilometres from Girona and
160 kilometres from Barcelona.
Its origins go back to the 8th century BC with
the arrival of the Rhodians and the foundation of the Greek
city of Rhodes. These historical events have become the marks
of identity of a modern, culturally active and generous town
born of a peaceful co-existence with other peoples and civilisations
in which people of Roses take pride and satisfaction.
Roses bay has over the course of history been the gateway
for the many peoples and civilisations that have visited the
shores and left testimony to their existence. This is shown
by the 3,000 years of history to be found here in the form
of vestiges from the past.
Its
unparalleled natural, geographical, climatologically characteristics,
and the bay, which bears its name, have attracted human settlement
from prehistory down to modern times. In between, you find
Greek colonisation, Roman settlements and the medieval population,
all of which left in their trail an extraordinary wealth of
archaeological remains
Roses can offer a coast full of contrasts,
with cliffs and secluded coves with clear, bright-blue waters,
fine-grain sand, and shallow waters ideal for families and
for water sports
Roses is a town well-placed for enjoyment
within the municipality itself of an extraordinarily beautiful
bounty of nature and landscape. If you love nature and going
for walks, then you will be able to enjoy all the year round
excursions and routes that will take you to admire natural
areas of Cap de Creus Natural Park, Aiguamolls de l'Empordà
Natural Park and the Albera Natural Zone.
